This blog is created for all fans of MDR to share & express their views about M D Ramanathan. MDR, in many ways communicates with the rasika, through a "Tiger Channel" that directly links the rasikas to various legendary composers in Carnatic Music.
His music continues to inspire rasikas across the globe, in the form of live recordings & the objective of this blog is to serve as a good meeting point for all rasikas to discuss one of their favorite topics. Suggestions/Opinions about the webpage is also welcome.

Dear Balaji,
You have done a great job with the web site. A splendid tribute to a truly great musician and human being.
what a glorious tribute to an all-time great musician!
Thank you so much for this website
Hi balaji,
Phenomenal job on Appa's nobility and musical excellence. Feel priveleged to have known, yet orphaned, in not realising his greatness as a lil' kid.
The pity is that the greatest artists get posthumous recognition. At least now, MDR is getting his due. My eternal regret is that I never saw him perform live...my interest in CM started only in the early 80s.
I am thankful, though, that numerous recordings of his concerts of his still survive.
About two decades ago, I attended a concert of MDR/Lalgudi/Palghat at Sastri Hall which was full. The concert was relayed from a Sterio SpoolTape recorder! It was a surreal experience.
I also attended a program in MFAS wherein I saw Mrs MDR and their son.I prayed God that his son do well in life.
A moving film on MDR was taken by Ms Sowdhamini and we must make sure we have it here.Lalgudi recalls his rendering "Mokshamu" from anupallavi and how he was dumbstruck.
MDR and his music would remain forever.Generations would persevere to visit him and hear his music.
Hi Balaji,
It’s a lovely website. The look and feel is excellent. As you pointed out the "Endaro" that was sung as group was very nice. With such a unique style of singing, I didn't believe that it was possible for people to sing along with him, until I heard this one. A site that I have to visit regularly from now on :)
Hello Balaji,
This is a slick website for a great musician. Songs like Guruleka Etuvanti and Manamaay Raamanai Paada should figure in the song list in my opinion. Talk to you later.

There is a closeness and warmth in each and every bit of MDR's song that I feel it comes from 'my' heart and I am transformed. The position and occurrence of silence and the speed reflects life in its original nature that I feel like it is the eternal song of nature that goes beyond thoughts. And for the same reason, I get transported homeward instantaneously and become my natural original self when I listen to MDR or even remember his songs.
That the main aim of music is our spiritual return is obvious in MDR's renditions and in the emergence of this website.
I am sure this web site will be used as a meditation center by one and all. Thank you.
Dear Balaji, Heard some wonderful music from the website. It is wonderfully designed and perhaps a fitting tribute to a wonderful musician and amazing human being.
Dear Balaji,
Enjoyed reading thru the MDR website. Excellent stuff!
Listened with great interest to the music and speeches you have provided at this site. Would it be possible for you to include downloadable versions of them (especially the speeches!).
Thank you very much.

Dear Balaji,
I am probably in the same league as the shopkeeper you mention in your anecdote, maybe only slightly better, but I am willing to declare that NO music has ever moved me as much, given me as much inner peace, infused me with joy and verve, as the music of Sri. MDR. It is ONLY being FAIR to this noble art form to immortalize the music of MDR so future generations understand the scope of Carnatic music in satisfying the finer artistic, intellectual and emotional requirements of mankind. This wonderful website goes a long way in achieving the goal. Thank you sincerely for that.
Jayanth
Dear Sir
I am a layman in music like that 'Xerox' attendant. But it was my listening to your father's music that I developed a penchant for carnatic music and prompted me to write an article in Boloji.com (My enchantment with Classical music- See under PGR Nair). When I was the President of Cochin Film society, I had the rare previlage to screen a film on your father titled "Pithruchaya" directed by Saudamini, a novice from Film Institute. The director spent a night in my house.I am still hunting for a copy of that movie. Can I know where it would be available. I have a good collection of MDR but this movie is something I still miss. My great regards to you for this wonderful web space on my dearest musician......PGR Nair (pgrnair@gmail.com)

Excellent blog.
I am an engineering student and have no real training in Carnatic music but it is not at all an exaggeation for me to say my day does'nt start without listening to the legend.
I listen to atleast 15 - 20 krithis rendered by Shree MDR everyday and I can't tell you how much it helps me.I 'll be indebted to him my entire life.
Dear Balaji,
Thank you for this amazing website on one of the greatest musicians of our time. I have grown up listening to his recordings (sadly never seen him performing live) and can't have enough of his Kalyani Ata Tala Varnam, Guruleka, Needu Moorthy, Entaro Mahanubhavulu and so much more! Would love to hear more audio clippings.
Hi Balaji,
This is a great website and a wonderful dedication to your father. As KVN told SRUTI, if he could, he would have told Music Academy to award the Sangita Kalanidhi to Sri MDR first, then him! The musicians of yesteryears were a truly a class apart, uncompromising in their search for perfection! Music was above all a form of dedication to God.
shri m d r's style of singing and ragalapana are inimitable and hearing the kritis like samajavaragamana, edromahaanubhalu and mangalacharane would give great rest to the mind and soul and soothes the heart. if we hear the entire kritis of any above, definitely we would feel much better and better.
